At least 50 POWs and Abductees are Living in Russia

Around 50 civilians and South Korean army POWs abducted by North Korea during the Korean War are living in eastern Russia, a South Korean politician has revealed.
“According to testimony by those in the Chukotka and Kamchatka areas, there are a confirmed 50 or so South Korean army POWs and civilian abductees living in eastern Russia,” said Jong Il Yong, a former lawmaker and chairman of the Liberal Democratic Alliance’s party in Cheonan.

“During the Korean War, North Korea abducted young South Korean civilians and soldiers and sent them to the mines in Aoji, near the Russian border,” Jong said. “North Korea sent around 8,000 of them to eastern Russia to work as loggers and miners.”
“The South Korean government must tell the families of abductees that these POWs and abductees are living in Russia, and make sure that there are reunions and repatriation for those that desire it,” Jang said. Jang also called for the government to send an investigative team to the region.
