2-24. At Military Armistice Commission UN Side Demands Information about the Conditions of Abductees
(May 26, 1954, Cho-sun Daily, 1st page)

[Panmun jeom- May 23 - with AP reporting]

On the 22nd, the Military Armistice Commission met for three and a half hours. UN military headquarters accused the Communist side of making the commission into a propaganda platform in order to influence meetings in Geneva.

The head of the UN delegation, Admiral Albert E. Jarrell, said the Communist side needed to stop misusing this commission as a propaganda platform and to refrain from convening meetings of the commission with this aim. And the UN side again had requested a special statement on the conditions of UN POWs – 3,805 South Korean and 54 foreigners – and 2,831 South Korean civilians, whose names they had submitted at a previous meeting.
