Strongly Demanding Exchange of Abductees
If It Fails Withdrawal is a Possible Option, Representative Lee Strongly Asserts
(Dec. 24, 1951, Cho-sun Daily, 2nd page)

In the midst of examining the list of prisoners of war from the Panmun-jeom talks, Lee Hyeong Geun, the head of South Korea¡¯s negotiating team, met with reporters on the 22nd at the Armed Forces Information and Education Division offices and discussed various issues regarding POW exchanges.
¡ã Regarding differences in the number of prisoners: I will maintain with the enemy side that we submit to each other detailed lists of proposed names, written in Chinese characters, and with affiliated military serial numbers.
¡ã Regarding one-for-one POW exchanges: As before I will strongly push for one-for-one POW exchanges and exchanging our detained patriotic civilians one-for-one for the remaining enemy prisoners of war. If the North does not accept the four items we proposed last time including these civilian abductees exchanges, we are ready to withdraw from the talks. As for me, I did not put that kind of emphasis on the POWs, I put a lot more work into the exchange of abducted civilians.
¡ã On whether a meeting would be held on the 27th: I have not believed it would be from the beginning. But early next month it looks like there might be a chance.
