It¡¯s a Matter of Course to Release POWs and Abductees
The First Press Conference of Acting Foreign Minister Cho
(Aug. 7, 1955, Cho-sun Daily, 1st page)

Acting Foreign Minister Cho on the morning of the 6th at his first meeting with the press, with regard to the Chinese Communist Party, declared that as a matter of course it is our right to demand the South Korean POWs and abducted civilians be freed from their protracted, severe confinement and slave labor.

Acting Foreign Minister Cho, who on the 3rd stressed to the Chinese Communists freeing 19,767 South Korean POWs and abductees, was asked at the press conference if the Chinese-American talks in Geneva gave reason to hope for the repatriation of the POWs and civilian abductees.

After answering in this way, he stressed that if countries friendly to us do the right and humanitarian thing, they will do their best on behalf of the prisoners¡¯ release, and if the Chinese Communists release only the American pilots and civilians, and the South Korean POWs and civilian abductees are not repatriated, it would be one more old trick of deceit by the Chinese Communists, he declared.
