President Lee Orders Representative Lim to Deal With the Repatriation of 17,000 Civilian Abductees

On the 18th President Lee instructed Lim Byeong Jik, South Korea’s Permanent Representative to the UN, to work at the UN General Assembly to raise support for demanding the repatriation of civilians abducted at the time of the Korean War. The press office announced that on this day President Lee received the letter of appeal submitted by the Association of Families of Persons Kidnapped at the time of June 25th Incident (KWAFA) and immediately ordered Representative Lim to carry out the aforementioned instructions.
Although last time Acting Foreign Minister Cho had announced a statement to the Chinese Communist Party to immediately release the 17,504 abducted civilians and 2,263 POWs, and this time Representative Lim proposed the issue of repatriation for the abducted civilians at the UN General Assembly, the government as of yet does not have a list of all of them, so they are bringing attention to the measure. Meanwhile on the 18th according to an informed source, recently the headquarters of the International Red Cross requested the lists of 17,000 abducted civilians and 2,200 POWs from our government. The related South Korean authorities inquired at each organization but were not able to obtain an official list.
But according to one high-ranking government official, the government will take this opportunity to make lists of the abducted civilians and POWs.
