abductees in North Korea
P.3, Column 6, Dong-A Daily, May 12, 1956
The Association of Civilian Abductees¡¯ Families invited International Red Cross representatives William H. Mitchell and Eugene Dewbic to Chunchu-jang, a bar in Nagwon-dong, downtown Seoul, at 1 p.m. on May 11, calling upon them to help with the swift repatriation of abductees and sending of letters.
About 60 family members of abductees, including Han, the wife of Maek Sang-gyu, who was abducted by North Korea, gathered at Chunchu-jang and asked the International Red Cross for three things: to investigate whether the civilian abductees in North Korea are alive, to allow loved ones to send articles to them, and to be allowed to contact them by letter. Finally, they asked them to solve the issue of abductees¡¯ repatriation as soon as possible.
After meeting the family members of the civilian abductees, the International Red Cross representatives departed for Busan at 1:30 p.m. to inspect welfare facilities.
