이 책은 휴전협정 60주년에 즈음하여 납북된 사랑하는 가족의 귀환에 마중물이 되기를 바라는 한결같은 마음으로 한글과 영문이 병기된 자료화보집으로 기획되었다. 아무리 긴 세월이 지나도 납북된 혈육에 대한 사랑은 변함이 없고 그리움은 더욱 짙어만 간다.
마지막으로, 납북되신 분들에게 영원히 당신들을 잊지 않고 사랑한다는 고백을 담아 이 자료화보집을 바친다.

Introduction
This book is published to mark the 60thanniversary of the MAC as a sourcebook written in both Korean and English hoping to be a catalyst for the repatriation of our beloved families who were abducted to the North. No matter how many years have passed, we still love them greatly and miss them even more.
I dedicate this book to the abductees and want to say that we will never stop loving you or forget you.

1950년 6월 25일 새벽, 북한의 기습남침으로 시작된 전쟁은, 1953년 7월 27일 휴전협정에 조인함으로써 한반도에서 포성은 멎었다. 하지만 이 전쟁은 휴전 60년이 다 되도록 전쟁납북자와 가족들에게 아직도 계속되고 있다. 요즈음 같이 정보가 넘쳐나는 시대에 어쩌다 6?25납북자들은 소식 한 자 전할 길 없는 캄캄한 어둠에 묻혀 마치 이 세상에 존재하지도 않았던 사람처럼 되어버렸는지…역사의 조난자, 그들도 사랑하는 아내와 함께 자식들을 키우며 단란한 가정을 이루고 살았던 가장이었고, 한 어머니의 그 무엇과도 바꿀 수 없는 소중한 아들이었다. 납북 범죄에 대한 수많은 증언과 문서들이 있음에도, 북한정권은 시종일관 납치 사실을 부인해왔다. 때문에 남한 가족들은 납북된 가족의 생사조차 확인하지 못하고 있다. 한 사람 한사람의 가치를 송두리째 앗아가고, 그 존재까지 지워버린 북한의 야만적인 남한민간인 납북 범죄야말로 대한민국은 물론 국제사회가 힘을 합하여 그 법적 책임을 물어 반드시 해결해야할 과제다. 그만큼 범죄의 질이 사악(邪惡)하고 무겁기 때문이다.
이 자료집 Ⅱ부에는 북한이 납치를 하지 않았다는 주장이 명백한 거짓임을 확실하게 드러내는 피랍치자명부들을 비롯하여, 핵심적인 사료들만을 선별하여 수록하였다. 이어지는 Ⅲ부에는 빛바랜 납북자 사진과 가족사진을 모아 보았다. 현재 가족회에는 400여 가족이 회원으로 입회하고 있지만 전쟁을 치른 후 납북된 가족의 사진을 보관하고 있는 회원은 안타깝게도 200여 가정에 그쳤다. 사진을 모으는 데도 많은 시일이 소요되었다. 그동안 가족회는 회원들이 입회할 때 납북된 가족의 사진을 받아 스캔하여 보관해왔고 이번 자료화보집 발간을 준비하면서 사진이 없는 회원들한테 일일이 전화연락을 하여 추가로 받아 스캔한 결과물이다. 이 자료화보집에서 가장 공을 많이 들인 부분이라고 할 수 있다.
그리고 부록으로 오늘의 가족회가 있기까지의 활동에 관한 간략한 소개를 문서자료와 사진 등으로 실었다. 1950년 9.28수복 후 곧 바로 임시 결성된 초대가족회의 눈물겨운 활동이 국가기록원에 고스란히 보관되어 있었다. 이 자료집에는 대표적인 자료만을 실었다. 끝으로 초대가족회의 정신을 이어받아 2000년 재결성된 현재 가족회가 지금까지 활동한 중요 내용들도 사진으로 담았다.

Glimpse
The Korean War, which had started with the sudden invasion of the North at the dawn of June 25, 1950, ground to a halt with a ceasefire agreement signed on July 27,1953 after the long lasting Military Armistice Conference (MAC). The roaring of guns and cannons died out. For the Korean War abductees and their families, however, the war is not over yet even though 60 years have passed. Even in this era of overflowing information, there is no way to know the whereabouts and fate of the Korean War abductees. It seems as if they had never existed. They became victims of the brutal history. They, too, were fathers of a happy family, husbands of a beloved wife, and sons of a loving mother. In spite of numerous testimonies and documents on the Korean War abduction, the North Korean regime has denied the very fact of the abduction. As a result, we still do not know whether our abducted family is alive or not. The abduction of South Korean civilians during the Korean War, a brutal crime committed by North Korea, has not only stripped away their dignity, but also completelyerased them from history. Not only South Korea but also the international society musthold North Korea legally responsible for the Korean War abduction because the nature of crime is wicked and heavy.
Part Ⅱ of this book contains core documents and critical evidences of the Korean War abduction including abductee lists, which prove the denial of North Korea on the abduction to be an absolute false claim. Part Ⅲ contains faded pictures of the abductees and their families. Unfortunately, only 200 families out of 400 members of the Korean War Abductee's Family Union (KWAFU) keep the photos of the abductees. The photo-collecting was a time-consuming work. Whenever a new member joined the KWAFU, we asked photos of the abductee and scanned them to build a photo database. We also made phone calls to the abductees' families to check if we missed anything. It is not an exaggeration to say that we put the most energy into colleting these photos.
The appendix briefly introduces the activities of the Association of Families of Persons Kidnapped at the time of June 25th Incident (KWAFA) and KWAFU with documents and photos. Documents on heart-breaking activities of the KWAFA, which was established right after the recapture of Seoul on September 28, 1950, are kept in the National Archives of Korea. This book only contains the most critical and representative materials. The photos of the KWAFU, which was re-established in 2000 on the spirit of the KWAFA, are included in this book as well.
